Â鶹ɫÇ鯬 faculty, staff and administrators gathered on Aug. 11 for the Fall 2025 General Assembly, held in the Seibel Wing of the college’s main campus.

The assembly featured breakfast, lunch, campus updates, and special guest presentations, while setting the stage for the new academic year.

GC President W. Myles Shelton, Ed.D., opened the morning with a warm welcome, joined by Board of Regents Chair Karen Flowers. Together, they expressed appreciation for the college community and highlighted the shared commitment to student success.
Shelton introduced new employees to the campus, shared updates on the college’s strategic planning process, and provided information on both the ongoing legislative session and the college’s compensation study.

The most significant announcement came at the close of the program, when Dr. Shelton shared his plans to retire as president of GC, effective Aug. 31, 2026. His announcement was met with applause and gratitude from colleagues, recognizing his more than two decades of leadership at the college, and five decades in higher education.

In addition to campus updates, the assembly welcomed special guests and community partners. Matthew Neighbors, Ed.D., superintendent of the Galveston Independent School District, shared progress on the district’s new high school construction project, discussed dual credit opportunities, and highlighted the strong collaboration between GISD and GC.

Col. Michael E. Fossum, chief operating officer of Texas A&M University at Galveston, also addressed the assembly. He provided updates on initiatives at TAMUG and reinforced the growing partnership between the two institutions, aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students on Galveston Island and beyond.

As GC begins a new academic year, the campus community looks ahead to continued collaboration and growth, guided by the vision of supporting student success, strengthening partnerships, and preparing for the leadership transition in 2026.
