The Galveston Community College District Board of Regents consist of nine members elected at large by the qualified voters of the College District.  Elections are held on the first Saturday in May of even-numbered years.  Each member shall be elected for a term of six years.  Terms are staggered whereby three positions expire each even-numbered year in May.

 

The next general election of the Board is May 4, 2024.  Polling place locations will be determined in February 2024 in conjunction with the other Galveston County political subdivisions that will conduct an election on the same date.  Terms for Positions 1, 2, and 3 are expiring in May 2024.  The first day to file for a place on the general election ballot is Wednesday, January 17, 2024, and the last day to file is Friday, February 16, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.  Applications can be obtained during regular business hours at: Â鶹ɫÇéƬ, Office of the President, 4015 Avenue Q, Room M-200, Galveston, Texas 77550.  This is the same location to file your application.

 

To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office in this state, including a college district board member, a person must:

  1. Be a United States citizen.
  2. Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
  3. Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:
    1. Totally mentally incapacitated; or
    2. Partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
  4. Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
  5. Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the following date:
    1. For an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate’s application for a place on the ballot.
    2. For a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate’s name is written in.
    3. For an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made.
  6. On the date described by number 5, be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected.

Each member of the board shall be a resident, qualified voter.  Education Code 130.082(d)
